I don’t feel like I have a lot of decorating rul

I don’t feel like I have a lot of decorating rules, but I sure do love a bedside sconce!

#tuesdaytip for you is that there are many different ways to approach using and installing them. A few examples for you here!

1)You can mount them directly on the bed posts and just wrap a pretty cord around to plug in behind the bed. This allows you to install at the very last minute and literally sit in the bed for ideal placement.

2) You can get your back panels exactly as you like and have a seamstress on site to make the incision and seam just so as you place the sconce. (Note-this might require an extra wood block to get the sconce beyond the baseboard and flush with the panels)

3) You can just install pretty plug ins on the walls and again wrap the cloth cord around to plug in. I like the old world Euro feel of this. Just don’t forget to add blocking!

4) You can install them outside the bed panels for a more bedside table lamp feel when space is tight.

5) You can place hardwired ones with exact measurements to fall between the back and side panels.

In honor of #wallpaperwednesday , I am sharing a crappy photo of a favorite install. As much as I love old and antiques, sometimes they are just not feasible and in this old timey powder room, everything is new! The individual fly fishing prints are digital reproductions that we antiqued with the help of @barrythepainter . Using original prints would a) ruin them for the future and b)was 3x the price. Next up, the vanity. I love an antique chest as a vanity, but they are not always practical and it can be hard to achieve the perfect counter height, have them accommodate stone counters, etc. We replicated a favorite antique with guess who?! @barrythepainter and it is even better than the original. How cute are those little shelves?! Anyway, there is more to share in here soon with actual professional photographs. Stay tuned!

Here are some outtakes from our @housebeautiful shoot with some serene details from this sitting room. The walls have a faux bois glaze in pale grey as a more modern play on wood paneling that gives updated library vibes. Just the right amount of pillows and pattern on a cozy cream sectional, a custom @paulschneiderceramics glazed lamp and voila!, we’d be happy to tuck in for the day here.

Pro tip: Desks make the perfect bedside tables in a guest room! They help throw off too much predictable symmetry while offering a really practical solution for tight quarters when you need a quick workstation. I also stock them with pretty stationery and pens so you can go ahead and crank out that “Thank You” note while you are there!
