At this time of year, remember that art is the gif At this time of year, remember that art is the gift that keeps on giving! As most of you know, I think about and source the vast majority of art in our projects. It is not an afterthought or a line item tacked on the end of a budget. It is integral to every design, room and home I do.

This is possibly my favorite idea and installation to date as seen in our @archdigest Montana project. We collected over 70 portraits (with an assist from @wileyfineartadvisory -thank you!) ranging from 18th century woolwork of a gentleman, to folk art, to delicate oil paintings, to black and whites of Snoop Dog and Jerry Garcia to line the stairway. The effect was magical if I do say so myself! Yet another pitch for clients going with designers on their boldest ideas-it always pays off.

A huge thank you to the insanely kind, talented and patient installer Chris Faiss @bornandbuilt . The installation was just as artistic as the actual art itself, I can assure you. There were custom finished wood walls, so very little margin for error. Oh and the as-built were off just to add to the fun!

I am literally crazy for details. All of them. I l I am literally crazy for details. All of them. I love sourcing every last vintage box, antler, antique door pull for curtain tie backs, custom trim, squirrel majolica plate 🐿️, sweet embroidered cocktail napkins, adding the perfect robins egg pop to a pink tweed chair, collecting antique candlesticks, trimming each sconce shade just so or even picking the bluest candlesticks to complement an olive lacquer table. This is where the magic happens and where my joy is found 💫.

Here are just a few of these moments from our Montana project.

I am grateful for so much outside of my work life, I am grateful for so much outside of my work life, but today I am feeling very grateful for this career that I have been lucky enough to enjoy for 23 years. I love working with all of the incredible artisans and vendors that see every last tape trim on to perfection or trouble shoot the myriad of snafus that are inevitable in this business to get projects across the finish line. There are so many unsung heroes in this line of work and while we, as the Insta-facing designers get all of the credit, we are literally nothing without them.

Same goes for our employees. I don’t even like that term tbh as they feel more like partners who help carry the creative, emotional and logistical burden of making a house (or pile of dirt) a home and they keep me laughing and feeling supported along the way. Design is the ultimate team sport and I am so thankful to have the best of the best in my team.

I also feel incredibly fortunate to have gained the trust of my amazing clients and am constantly in awe that they actually listen to me.

And finally, my Insta-friends. I have a bit of a love/hate with all social media and often struggle to make sense of this relatively new mandate for designers’ success. That said, I am truly grateful for all who chose to follow along, notice the details we sweat over, drop a nice line or even ask a question to show I am not just here talking to myself. Thank you. I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh and @barriebenson, here is my dining room round up.

The years seem to be speeding up and I can’t belie The years seem to be speeding up and I can’t believe it is yet again, time to wish my first baby happy birthday…and this time 22!! You have been with me for 40% of my life, but I honestly struggle to remember a day without you. I don’t think I have been lonely since the day you entered this world. You are a constant companion, always checking in, always answer the phone, always up for a binge TV session or milkshake run and most importantly, just always, you. I love you beyond what any silly Insta post can express and am so very very grateful you are mine 💕.
